Although he was an advocate and legal administrator by profession, Scott is most famous for his great literary works and activities in the Royal Highland Society. This historical novel tells the story of author’s most famous character, Sir Dugald Dalgetty of Drumthwacket and his involvement in the fight of Montrose during the English Civil War. The narrative moves dramatically from Dalgetty’s unflinching encounter with the Duke of Argyll to his escape from Inveraray Castle, and then to the battle of Inverlochy.
